Mass Effect 3: Eff off, I liked it.
With all the recent controversy surrounding Bioware’s Mass Effect 3, I had to find out for myself what this series was all about. So, for the past 2 or 3 weeks I’ve been on somewhat of a tumblr blackout, hiding myself from any spoilers I may run into. I went ahead and skipped Mass Effect 1 and went straight for Mass Effect 2, which I borrowed from my roommate. After a few hours of playing this I new was hooked. Third person shooting with RPG elements and an addictive storyline with a great leveling system?! Gee wilikers! Peace out girlfriend, I’m calling in sick to work today! Without getting off on too much of a tangent, I will say that I thouroghly enjoyed Mass Effect 2, as well as all the DLC. Now for the third one. When I first popped this one in, I must admit I was a bit disenchanted. It was almost like when I was 3 years old and my stupid little sister was born, and I hated her, and didn’t want her anywhere near me. But, after a while I learned to appreciate her, and such is the same with Mass Effect 3. I suppose the new features, updated graphics, new characters and missing parts from ME2 gave me a little case of shell shock at first, so I rebelled slightly. After the battle of Palaven though, it really took off for me. I learned to love my new squad members, Javek, the last living Prothean being my favorite new comer. I found myself doing a lot of arbitrary work and odd jobs at the Citadel, which actually got sorta boring after a while. My mission with Kasumi was apparently broken, and that really pissed me off, I love that chick! My last complaint is that I changed discs every 5 minutes, which meant having to angrily pry them out of the metal case every time, ultimately leaving a small crack in disc one. On to the good parts. The updated graphics were very noticeable, and my fem shep has never looked hotter! The rolling added a great new defensive mechanic, and was very responsive. The paragon/renegade interrupts were much more coherent, sometimes even humorous, albeit incredibly sparse. All things considered I had a great time fighting my way to the end, and eventually adapted to the third installment of the Mass Effect trilogy. (I would even say this may be my all time favorite game, next to Sonc 1,2, and 3 naturally) And as for the ending, I could be an asshole and tell everyone to quit bitching, meanwhile spoiling it for the rest of you who haven’t played it yet. I could write Bioware countless angry letters telling them I hated it, contributing to the end of story writing integrity forever. But I thought the ending was fucking fantastic so why would do that?! FTW this game ruled!
